Create Change.
Tell New Stories.

Zemeira Singer, LMFT

I believe that people are naturally strong, creative, resilient, and want to live with joy and intention.

I want to help you develop insight into your emotional life, create lasting relationships, and do good work in the world.

Our work together will involve deep listening. I’m curious about how you tell the story of your life. I’ll listen for places where you may be stuck in limiting beliefs or acting out old plot lines that no longer suit you.

I’ll meet you where you are, and together we’ll discern what needs attention.

As we get to know each other, I’ll provide a tailored approach to your specific needs and goals.

I may ask you to tune into your body’s sensory input to determine where we put our focus.  I may invite you to use somatic tools to regulate your nervous system. We may identify negative internal scripts and develop more compassionate internal dialogues. Or we may simply have a conversation.

Perhaps you’re seeing yourself through a negative lens, or some past trauma has shown up and needs to be processed. Perhaps you want to strengthen your support network or find a sense of purpose.  Whatever the particulars, we’ll work collaboratively to help you see your life clearly, develop agency over what you can change, and let go of what is no longer beneficial.

I work at the intersection of Narrative Therapy and Contemplative Psychotherapy. Narrative therapy focuses on the role of context and how society and dominant narratives skew the way we see ourselves. Contemplative Psychotherapy focuses on the power of mindfulness and compassion to transform human suffering. Both modalities center you, the client, and acknowledge that we heal through the power of human care and connection.

We need spaces that hold all that we are, particularly the parts of us that have been marginalized or rejected by society, family, or ourselves. I hope to help you connect the parts of yourself you had to abandon, bring them onboard as resources, and resist the ways the world asks you to be less than you are.

Meditation

I am a Meditation Instructor and Contemplative Psychotherapy Practitioner. I graduated from Nalanda Institute’s Contemplative Psychotherapy program in 2018 and am a certified Compassion Based Resilience Training (CBRT) Meditation Teacher. I offer CBRT courses for groups throughout the year. For more information and current offerings of CBRT please see my CBRT site.

I can include meditation as part of psychotherapy when desired. If you are interested in this, please let me know.

SPirtual mentorship

Given my dual training as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Contemplative Psychotherapy Practitioner, I am able to provide an approach focused on integrating psychological issues with spiritual practice. For those who’ve been on a spiritual path for some time, this can be particularly helpful.

I am skilled at working with the aftermath of awakening and bliss experiences and helping clients integrate spiritual practice into their daily lives. My approach is grounded at the intersection of neuroscience and Buddhist psychology.  I can help you understand where you are along your path and how to deepen your spiritual engagement in the world in a practical way.

When relevant, I’ll provide guidance on starting and sustaining a meditation practice, suggest specific meditations from the Theravada, Mayhayana, and Vajrayana traditions, and help you create daily rituals that support your spiritual and personal growth.

While I am trained in Buddhist practices, I am open to working with those who come from different spiritual traditions. In my experience, the wisdom traditions have much in common and can be quite complementary to one another.
